[Mathis when are we ever gonna have a normal one

asking for the both of us this shit's ridiculous]

Mathis...

[She'll come join him. Not in any better a mood than he, really, and with a bottle of whisky slung low in one hand. She puts it to the side when she sits down next to him, looking his way with one bleary, tear-stricken eye.

She'll open an arm for him.]

Come here.

[Don't worry about it.

She pulls him close. If he wants to lean his head in he's got an open invitation. Her own cheek rests against his hair, and she lets the quiet of night cloak them for a moment.]

I know it's lonely these days. And getting lonelier. [An understatement. And she can't follow it up with a platitude either. Knowing what she does now, there is no silver lining coming.

It's enough to make you envy the ones that left.]

But I don't want you to feel like you have to be alone.

[She goes quiet. Her still falls soft and even, her hold doesn't tighten or slacken. There's just a wave of bitter emotion. Heartbreak, mostly. And a solemn understanding.

The longer she stays alive, the more she wonders if she shouldn't have stayed dead.]

Me either.

[She should dissuade him. Camille turns her head and presses her lips to his hair. Gives him a tender kiss. She thinks of her conversation with Essek and her stomach gives an uneasy turn.]

Mathis, I don't want you to do anything rash. I don't want to see you hurt, any more than anyone else. But there will be an end to it.
