what are you supposed to do when someone is crying. what are you supposed to say. her thoughts are a little muffled but he can probably hear her asking herself these kinds of questions over and over. ]
[he hears, but he's in the middle of like, the hiccuping kind of crying where he can't say anything in return, his own thoughts a messy jumble that's difficult to pick much out of except for one that manages to come through more coherently. a plaintive little but we were just- getting somewhere.]
[ she wants to be able to articulate that it hurts to die—something he must know from the adventure they went on. but that at least they're going to another dimension afterwards. they've been getting letters.
but her thoughts are a bit too messy and she can't figure out how to word it and she's really really bad at this sort of thing.

she slowly stops tapping her foot. then after another moment crouches down next to him to put an arm around his shoulder. ]
